Casa Hipólito left an indelible mark on the economic, social, and cultural life of Torres Vedras and of Portugal. Professor Joaquim Moedas Duarte brings this history back to life in the book Casa Hipólito – History, Memories and Heritage of a Torriense Factory, whose first edition sold out quickly.
In this 2nd edition, the author once again gives voice to the memories, documents, and testimonies of almost a century of activity of a factory that began in 1902, founded by António Hipólito, and which would go on to become the largest company in the municipality, employing hundreds of workers and taking the name of Torres Vedras beyond national borders.
More than a research work, this book is a living testimony to the impact of Casa Hipólito on the identity of Torres Vedras. The presentation will be an opportunity to remember stories, share memories, and celebrate a heritage that remains alive in our community.
About the author
Joaquim Moedas Duarte (Alpiarça, 1947) holds a degree in History and a Master’s in Heritage Studies. A history teacher in Torres Vedras from 1971 to 2008, he has played an active role in the cultural life of the municipality through associations, the local press, and, currently, as a member of the Torres Vedras Heritage Association and the Senior University.
