Halloween is still in full swing at Story Owl! With our Dark Academia atmosphere, the shop is dressed in ghosts and skeletons, and our series of Halloween cinema Fridays continues.
This week we’re screening Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992), directed by Francis Ford Coppola. When young solicitor Jonathan Harker (Keanu Reeves) travels to Transylvania to finalize a real estate deal, he becomes a prisoner of the enigmatic Count Dracula (Gary Oldman). Soon the Count sets his sights on London and on Harker’s fiancée, Mina (Winona Ryder), whom he believes to be the reincarnation of his lost love. Inspired by Bram Stoker’s classic novel, the film is a lavish gothic romance of crimson shadows, opulent costumes and hypnotic, dreamlike imagery, with Anthony Hopkins as the relentless Van Helsing and a haunting score by Wojciech Kilar. It won three Oscars, including Best Costume Design, and it’s easy to see why.
Low lights, candles lit, and the projector bringing this dark and darkly romantic story to life. An atmosphere designed to slow down and step into another reality, with comfort and intimacy.
